Buzzkill is my fourth year thesis study on the effects that human intervention has on the honey bee and its potential impact on this planet. Buzzkill takes unfamiliar information about the honey bee and its plight and presents it through vehicles of familiar bee iconography.
A short documentary following two local beekeepers was created to introduce the topic and generate empathy.
Five books were developed to highlight the greatest contributors to the honey bee decline. The books use black and white imagery as a reflection on the colour that would be lost in our environments if the honey bee ceased to pollinate our flowers and crops. When put side by side, the books form a honey comb map of the world that has split the bee in two, commenting on both the global causality that will result from a decline and the human race’s intervention with the honey bee.
These books were presented inside of a beehive that I designed for the graduate exhibition.
An interactive foldout pamphlet that highlights the importance of the honey bee through quick statistics. As the pamphlet is unfolded and more information is revealed, the honey bee logo begins to disintegrate.
Project map/timeline posters (semesters 1 and 2) showing the various areas of practice, research, and development required to complete my thesis.
